Rheumatoid Arthritis-Insidious furtive!

Tiease's Health & Beauty Directory is provided for informational purposes only.

My Rodger suffers from various forms of severe arthritis, nerve damage and chronic bone deterioration; needless to say new discovers & treatments related to this topic are of interest to me. And it occurred to me that some of my readers would benefit from my easy to understand data on the subject as well.

I have first hand experience on the,"When you don't feel good-You won't look good" With stiff joints it's difficult to show off your style, I combine my own health care knowledge, skills, experiences and research for the every day Fashionista, without a degree in medical science.

I've committed my time and energy into investigating treatments & medications that may be helpful and enable you or someone you know to get through your day comfortably & maintain a healthy range-of-motion (ROM). I strive for lay-person-accuracy, reliability, new, and timeliness of my information, however by no means should this information be used in substitution of your doctors orders.

I believe that if you are to clearly comprehend & solve a problem you must first understand it, so I begin with a straight forward generic definition of Rheumatoid Arthritis:
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) causes early deaths, disability & poor quality of life world wide. It's an auto-immune disease, meaning the disease is caused by your body's own immune system acting against your body itself. Symptoms include painful, stiff, swollen joints, fever, fatigue, and loss of appetite. The inflammatory process primarily affects the lining of the joints (synovial membrane), but can also affect other organs. The inflamed synovium leads to erosions of the cartilage and bone and sometimes joint deformity. Unfortunately the exact cause is unknown. RA is believed to be the result of a faulty immune response. RA can begin at any age and is associated with fatigue & prolonged stiffness even after resting. It is the swelling that cause a lot of the pain. I will provide you the foundation to enable you to continue your own investigation.

Inflammation can be classified as either acute or chronic. Acute inflammation is the initial response of the body to harmful stimuli and is achieved by the increased movement of plasma and leukocytes (especially granulocytes ) from the blood into the injured tissues. A cascade of biochemical events occur and matures the swelling response, involving the local vascular system, the immune system, and various cells within the injured tissue. Prolonged swelling, known as chronic inflammation, leads to a progressive shift in the type of cells present at the site of inflammation and is characterized by simultaneous destruction & healing of the tissue from the inflammatory process).

There is no cure for RA, but new effective drugs are increasingly available to treat the disease and prevent deformed joints. In addition to medications and surgery, pro-self-health management, like: Nutritious diet, Exercise, rest and emotional stability are known to reduce pain and disability.

Fortunately (RA) treatment utilizing news medications
The major classes of anti-rheumatic drugs include:

Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs. Drugs belonging to this class bring symptomatic relief of both inflammation and pain, but have a limited effect on the progressive bone and cartilage loss associated with rheumatoid arthritis. They act by slowing the body's production of prostaglandins. Common NSAIDs include: ibuprofen (Motrin, Nuprin or Advil), naproxen (Naprosyn, Aleve) and indomethacin (Indocin).

Corticosteroids. These drugs are very powerful antiinflammatory agents. They are the synthetic analogs of cortisone, produced by the body. Corticosteroids are used to reduce inflammation and suppress activity of the immune system. The most commonly prescribed are prednisone and dexamethasone.

Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs (DMARDs). DMARDs influence the disease process itself and do not only treat symptoms, hence their name. DMARDs also have anti-inflammatory effects, and most were borrowed from the treatment of other diseases, such as cancer and malaria. Antimalarials DMARDs include chloroquine (Aralen) and hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil).

Powerful DMARDs include: methotrexate (Rheumatrex), sulfasalazine, cyclosporine, azathioprine (Imuran) and cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan), azathioprine, sulfasalazine, penicillamine, and organic gold compounds such as aurothioglucose (Solganol), gold sodium thiomalate (Aurolate) and auranofin (Ridaura).

Slow-Acting Antirheumatic Drugs (SAARDs). SAARDs are a special class of DMARDs and the effect of these drugs is slow acting and not so quickly apparent as that of the NSAIDs. Examples are hydroxychloroquine and aurothioglucose.

Immunosuppresive cytotoxic drugs. This class of drugs is used if treatment with NSAIDs and SAARDs have no effect. Immunosuppresive drugs have a stabilizing effect on the immune system. Since the inflammation associated with chronic arthritis is due to malfunctions of the immune system, use of this class of drugs has been shown to be beneficial for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis as well.

Examples are: methotrexate, mechlorethamine, cyclophosphamide, chlorambucil & azathioprine.

Moderantirheumatic medications such as methotrexate, hydroxychloroquine and biologic meds such as tumore necrosis factor (TNF) blockers have helped to improve the quality of life in RA sufferers. I recommend taking advantage of safe aggressive interventions to maintain your independence both scientific approaches, Alternative medicines, Appropriate exercises and prayer. I want to help you understand some of these solutions.

Many people are unaware that RA can go into remission (acute symptoms disappear & ceases its progress) when diagnosed early and treated stat/right away. Being your own Pro-Self-health-advocate makes a tremendous difference in your long term outcome and independence. There are solutions out here which can help, but you must get involved and make informed smart decisions.

Natural RA Interventions:

I am pleased to see that many Fashionistas are embracing alternative means of health and natural interventions in combination with established medical practice. There is room for both and in fact we would do better to utilize and re-educate ourselves to some of the so-called Old Wives's Home remedies to step-up or positive self- health advocacy plan!

When it comes to arthritis in general one of the primary causes of pain is inflammation (Swelling). I chose an interventions that don't require a prescription for my readers today.

Nopalea-is a health elixir which claims to help soothe muscle, joint and bone discomfort; Support heart health especially important in women these days; Calms digestive disorders; relieve all kinds of general body aches and pains; Protect cellular homeostasis and Energize your body, which is something we can all do with these days.

Nopalea comes from the fruit of the Nopal cactus (Opuntia Ficus Indica) which contains a rare powerful class of antioxidants called Betalains (pronounced bay-to-linz). Betalains have been scientifically proven to help the body detoxify itself while reducing swelling. So if it does what it claims this would be a welcomed treatment for RA.

The manufacturers of this drink asserts that by consuming it daily; you can relieve a stiff neck and joints pain associated with swelling which affects mobility (Range-of-motion) and quality of life. Obviously you must first consume it to determine the its benefits personally. And since I'm not getting paid to push anything in particular. You must decide which products you desire to test yourself.

The makers suggest a loading phase of 3-6 ounces per day of Nopalea. Many swear that after starting this regimen their pain was either cut in half or relieved all together. Now when it comes to chronic Rheumatoid arthritis there are no absolute cures but you can get a whole lot more accomplished in your life with less pain, toxins and inflammation holding you back.

***A good rule of thumb is always inform your health care provider of any acute infection, cold/flu, allergies, history of liver and/or kidney disease, or open wounds you may suffer with since all of these may affect the effectiveness of any intervention.

Tiease's Simple Ways to Stay Healthy & Beautiful  :)

Relax, take care of your holistic health (Mind,Body,Soul)

No excessive alcohol, drugs and if you smoking stop. Smoking makes blood slow and sluggish resulting in poor circulation.

Keep active and get out of the house meet people. Just 30 minutes of exercise daily 4-5 days a week Will enable you to maintain healthy bones and joints. You know that old cliche` "Use it or lose it!" Well when it comes to arthritis and your bones it's a golden rule; inactivity seems to exacerbate symptoms, pain, stiffness, muscles atrophy (shrinking) and physical decline when you're inactive.

When it comes to nutrition you don't have to be a healthful obsessive maniac. If you are not a diabetic or on some Doctor prescribed special diet then eat what you enjoy-Just eat it in moderation. Depriving yourself of certain foods you enjoy takes away from one of life simple pleasure and certainly does nothing positive for your mentality.

Low-Impact Aerobics to combat Arthritis

Exercises build endurance and strong bones and also strengthen leg muscles. Low-impact aerobic exercises include stair climbing, walking, dancing, and low-impact cardio equipment, such as the elliptical trainer. Inactivity decreases joint motion and flexibility which leads to weak muscles and deformed joints. Regular exercise helps reverse joint stiffness, builds muscle, and boosts overall fitness. With regular exercise, you can feel stronger with less fatigue. Discuss exercise & your activity tolerance with your health care provider prior to starting any work-out routine. Remember good things come to those who don't wait!

Include resistance exercises two times a week to improve your muscle strength, mobility and decrease joint pain. Stronger muscles decrease joint pain by better supporting the joints. Strengthening exercises also increase your metabolism and reduces excess weight.

To do:   Use elastic bands, free weights, or machines for resistance. Ask the trainer at your gym to show you how to use resistance machines

To do:   Start by exercising a few minutes each day, adding more time as you can. Aim to exercise at a moderate pace, 30 to 60 minutes, 5 days each week.

Maintain a healthy weight. When I say healthy weight I mean what feels healthy for you. Each of us are individuals and across the board weights is just silly this is why so many young women and boys now are suffering through various unhealthy diets practices. what you need to know is your body frame, bone structure and at what weight does your feminine curves shine through the best. One Fashionista's 150pounds may have her looking like great at 150 lbs. looks like they are starving to death and/or suffering through some disease, such as anorexia.

I do recommended screening test, because the best medicine is "Preventative Medicine" If you can diagnose a ailment early  you have a better opportunity of survivals. A better chance to stop or at least slow its progress.

This is just a small amount of  heads-up details & findings, but of course there are new discovers and drugs coming on the market daily. affecting approximately 1.3 million people in the United States, according to current census data. The disease is three times more common in women as in men. It afflicts people of all races equally

Until we meet again be healthy; be active; be positive & be happy. :)
