Tiease's Healthy cholesterol tips-Paying it forward to Fashionistas!

I am not a dieting fanatic but when my little sister, Yalanda emailed me this article I couldn't help "Paying it forward!" to my readers.

Believe it or not animal research is pointing to blueberries and as a natural fat buster. Researchers think that blueberries may help keep blood fats down because of their liver-supportive nature. The liver is the organ that helps the body get rid of excessive levels of cholesterol. And compounds in blueberries appear to help activate certain genes in the liver, giving it a efficient boost in productivity. Blue berries are credited with helping to lower high blood pressure-lowering. Personally blueberries are good in yogurt or pie for myself,  but fresh blueberries are a common addition to the breakfast table and a pretty site to see. There smell is pleasant and invigorating so I have nothing really negative to say about these recent finding.

Ingredients:

Yogurt

Fruit Topping

Prep Time: 1 hr

Total Time: 7 hrs

  1. 1 Tools to Sterilize: 1 pan with lid, 9 glass pint jars, 9 pint jar lids, 1 ladle, 1 candy thermometer, 1 canning funnel, 1 stirring spatula (mine is extra wide), 1 metal stirring spoon.
  2. 2 Other Tools: 1 small cooler, 1 teapot,1 blender.
  3. 3 Sterilize all your cooking tools. This is easy to do. Put a few inches of water in the bottom of your pot. Put all the cooking tools you can fit inside. Put the lid on the pan. Simply steam the tools in the pan for a few minuets. or Wash all the tools in a dishwasher. or Heat water in your teapot and pour boiling water over your tools.
  4. 4 Use a sterilized pint jar to measure out the 8 pints of milk into your pan. Put your candy thermometer in the pan and get your spatula ready.
  5. 5 Turn your burner to less then medium heat. Slowly heat the milk while stirring the bottom of the pan from time to time. Heat milk to almost boiling (or 180 degrees).

  6. 6 While milk is heating measure out the yogurt. Use one sterilized pint jar to measure out the Greek yogurt. Remember to stir your warming milk often.

  7. 7 While milk is heating, heat water in your tea pot and pour it into your cooler. Close up the cooler to preheat it. Refill the teapot and heat some more water. Remember to stir your warming milk often.

  8. 8 While milk is heating measure out the fruit topping ingredients into a blender and blend them. Place this blended topping inside the fridge to wait. Remember to stir your warming milk often.

  9. 9 When milk has reached 180 degrees remove pan from heat and allow to cool to 110 degrees. The active cultures will be killed if they are stirred into milk any hotter then 110 degrees.

  10. 10 While waiting for milk to cool down dump water out of your warmed cooler and place the empty pint jars inside of the empty cooler.

  11. 11 Once milk has cooled to 110 degrees it is time to stir in the yogurt. In order to easily stir in the yogurt it helps to stir it with a little milk before adding it to the warm milk. Put half the yogurt in two jars and stir in warmed milk with each jar. Then pour the yogurt/ milk mix into the pot and stir it all together with the rest of the warmed milk. The used pint jars can still be used for culturing yogurt in them.

  12. 12 Place your canning funnel on to one of your pint jars. Ladle yogurt/milk mixture into the pint jars, one will not be all the way full. Loosely cover each jar with a lid.

  13. 13 Pour preheated water from your teapot into the bottom of your cooler. Close up cooler and let the yogurt culture.

  14. 14 Culture in the cooler for 6-10 hours, you can add more hot water if you want. The longer the yogurt cultures the thicker it will be. I like to add hot water in the middle and culture for the whole 10 hours because I like my yogurt very thick.

  15. 15 When yogurt has reached desired thickness remove the jars from the cooler. Dump the water out of the cooler.

  16. 16 Get your fruit topping out of the fridge and spoon it onto the top of each of your yogurt cultures, for a fruit at the top effect. Replace the lids tightly on each pint jar.

  17. 17 Store pint jars of yogurt in the fridge until you are ready to eat them.

Blueberry Pie Recipe

INGREDIENTS

Crust:
Filling ingredients:
  • 6 cups of fresh (or frozen) blueberries, rinsed and stems removed (if using frozen, defrost and drain first)
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for thickening)
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp butter (unsalted), cut into small pieces
Egg wash ingredients:
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk

METHOD

1 Prepare the crust. Roll out half of the dough to 1/8-inch-thick circle on a lightly floured work surface, about 13 inches in diameter. Fit the dough over a 9-inch pie pan, and trim the edges to a 1/2 inch over the edge all around the pan. Put into the refrigerator to chill for about 30 minutes.

2 Gently mix the blueberries, sugar, flour, cinnamon, lemon zest, and lemon juice in a large bowl. Transfer them to the chilled bottom crust of the pie pan. Dot with butter pieces. Roll out remaining dough to the same size and thickness as the first. Place on top of the berry filling. Tuck the top dough over and under the edge of the bottom dough, and crimp the edges with your fingers. Transfer the pie to the refrigerator to chill until the dough is firm, about 30 minutes. Heat oven to 425°F.

3 Whisk egg and milk together to make an egg wash.

4 Remove the unbaked pie from refrigerator. Brush the top with egg wash. Score the pie on the top with 4 cuts (so steam can escape while cooking). Place the pie on the middle rack of the oven with a parchment paper lined baking pan positioned on the lower rack to catch any filling that may bubble over. Bake for 20 minutes at 425°. Reduce heat to 350°F and bake for 30 to 40 minutes more or until juices are bubbling and have thickened. Transfer to a wire rack to cool. Let cool completely before serving.
Makes 8 servings.
There are so many ways to enjoy blueberries I have just listed the way I enjoy consuming this healthy sweet snack.

Tiease's Shot to the Fashionista's arm about Self-Esteem!

Today all we here is that Americans are so over weight. It's enough to drive even the strongest Fashionista to ponder her appearance but don't. If you find yourself taking hours in the morning to dress or it takes you a century to prepare your self for a night out on the town (My mother was this type of Diva-as a child it drove me nuts!) trying on dozens of different outfits only to disappointed toss each aside and declare they all make you look too fat! This is a sign that all is not right with your inner self, physically you may be a top specimen but your body image (The was a Fashionista sees herself) is starving and this dramatically affects your self worth and eventually your physical appearance.

So what's a Fashionista to do? Start by not blaming yourself this is a common pitfall. Your curves, breast, buttocks, thighs and legs are God given and a proud statement of your femininity heritage! Love yourself the way you are and happiness will follow. I can appreciate sensible exercise after all the human body is built on the principal of "Use it or Lose it!" meaning if you don't use your body it begins to atrophy, dry up and become useless. The key is balance, moderation, positive self-worth. A little muscle toning never hurts and as long as you are totally toned in to what you see in the mirror is pleasing to you then everything is at least on the right track.

Instead of the government chiming in and telling citizens across the board that we are a people of a fat nation they should stress positive self esteem first since this is where most weight gain  and eating disorder arise from.
Poor body image is more likely to lead to risky activities, such as: compulsively exercising, starvation, depression, abuse of steroids, alcohol, drugs and various other eating disorders like bulimia (in which the individual eats a massive amount of food then swiftly throws up and or take laxative to rid their body of the food they have just consumed before their body can digest the nutrient and calories in the food) or anorexia which is just a fancy word for self-starvation. No wonder we a gripped by alcoholism and drug dependent.

Not every Fashionista was meant to look like a bone-in fact the essence and beauty of woman is her curvaceousness. The money driven Media has forced many Fashionistas to question their own natural body types. The so-called ideal body types is a myth since the bean stalks held up as the perfect is anything but perfect. It's past time to trash these impossible-to-achieve stereotyped illusions and lies displayed for use to marvel at and the truth of the matter is that these aren't natural. The so-called perfect model images we find ourselves been force to look at because that is all that is available is a lie. These photos have been photo shopped  with all body imperfections eliminated, various dieting drugs, chemical are provided to them that the every day woman just doesn't know about and even if you did would not be available to you and worse of all cosmetic surgical enhancement are the key reason for all these amazing bodies. Flat chest today Giant knockers (Breast) tomorrow. You much have good character and we must educate our younger Fashionistas to appreciate themselves just the way they are. Yes be is shape, eat what ever you like in moderation and according to any preexisting conditions or diet restrictions you may have like diabetes but do eat!

I encourage my readers that to look at yourself differently, see your glass as half full-rather than half empty.
Look at your accomplishment, not merely your outer beauty (youth is fleeting and we all age then where will you be a grumpy old woman hating younger women who haven't done one thing against you but be young and beautiful). First if the magazines you subscribe to doesn't have every day women in them then get rid of it because it's not reality. These magazine and television commercials are created to sell, persuade or manipulate
you how to criticize your own beautiful God given glory. Ask yourself is that starving bean stalk is actually enjoying her life, her food, is she happy?

I invite you to take another better road. Set goals for yourself of being smart, God loving, strong, fit and self-fulfillment. It is easy to get fat but imagine how much better we could be as a people if we focused more on the individual and not how skinny or not they are.

Just be the best you can be and be happy. Plan delicious healthy, nutritious meals and encourage yourself to indulge in sensible exercise. You can just walk, burn excess calories and tone your muscles. You don't need to be totally tuned into the Gym scene-just do your own thing. Why not start a club where you meet to walk or exercise in your home or take a walk down your local blocks. If you have always wanted to ball room dance then take lessons. It doesn't matter what activity you do as long as you do something. Even yoga is a positive exercise and daily meditation for 10 minutes and daily morning prayer are a wonderful and soothing way to start your fashionable day. Do what suits you!

Beware standing in front of your mirror and hating yourself, stop proclaiming that the image you see is unattractive instead decide that you will be the best that you can be and that's all that any Fashionista

Tiease's Eyebrow Intervention Guide

Your hair naturally grows in follicles that contain groupings of 1-4 hairs. Modern eyebrow transplantation uses your naturally occurring 1–4 hair "follicular units" in their natural groupings. Thus new hair transplantation can result in a natural appearance by mimicking natural  hair.
A. Strip Harvesting - a strip of scalp is removed under local anesthesia, the wound is then sutured back together and this piece of scalp tissue is then cut in to small pieces of tissue called grafts which are then transplanted back in to the thinning area of the patients head. This method will leave a linear scar in the donor area, which should be covered by a patients hair (if long). The recovery period is around 2 weeks and will require the stitches to be removed by medical personnel.

B. Follicular Unit Extraction or (FUE) Harvesting - individual follicles of hair are removed under local anesthesia; this micro removal uses tiny punches of between 0.6mm and 1.25mm in diameter. Each follicle is then reinserted back in to the scalp in the thinning area using a micro blade. Because individual follicles are removed, only small, scars remain and any post-surgical pain is minimized. As no suture removal is required,

An eyebrow transplant is a form of hair transplant surgery focusing specifically on the eyebrows, a procedure which people usually desire due to change in shape or loss of hair resulting from an injury. Other people seek the surgery in order to alter the natural shape of their eyebrows, or to correct other forms of hair loss in the area. Here we explain the basics of the process, beginning with your consultation with the surgeon and leading up to your procedure. Your hair similarities and differences are  explored before hand.
Eyebrow transplant surgery is considered a niche area in comparison to transplants to the scalp, so you may have to look around for a suitable clinic and surgeon that specializes in eyebrow transplants. Make sure that they are experienced in the area and have trained to perform this specific procedure. Selecting the right brows is essential.
At your cosmetic consultation they will use modern technology to project the expected shape of the eyebrows. Using a computer application to superimpose an assorted selection of eyebrows onto a photograph of yourself. You will be able to choose your desired eyebrow shape to Matching hair to the eyebrows

Hair from the scalp is most commonly used for eyebrow transplants, as this is the closest match to eyebrow hair in terms of color and consistency. Body hairs and other hairs available for transplantation are  thicker and usually not the best  texture, meaning that the eyebrows would appear noticeably distinct from the rest of the upper face if this hair were used.
Eyebrow transplant surgery uses similar technique of a hair transplants. First harvesting and extracting sets of healthy hair follicles from your donor site and implanting them into the brow line. This may be accomplished with strip harvesting, which leaves a visible scar, or with newer and more discreet follicular unit extraction (FUE). Removing all of the excess fatty tissue, plus unwanted dermal and epidermal skin levels, which is crucial due to the brow's proximity to the eye. With any surgery their is a real potential for infection and any other relevant complications to develop associated with the procedure, but good hygienic care on your and your surgeon behalf helps reduce the risk of infection and don't pick with the eyebrow after your procedure.

The amount of follicular units needed for a successful transplant depends on your chosen shape and the amount of hair loss in your brows. Your surgeon will have made an estimate beforehand, and this factor can affect the price. When the hair follicles are transplanted into the brow line, small circular incisions are used so there will be scares which should be hidden by new hair growth.
Recovery time should be short, though you can expect swelling and bruising in the first few days. Swelling should be limited to the area around your eyebrows. When performed correctly discomfort and inflammation are minimal.

Shaping your own eyebrows tips and techniques
Eyebrow shaping is an ancient art. For as long as their have been people there have been eyebrows and the desire to make ones eyes pop! I was watching a fashion skit in which the technician was using thread to shape a customers eyebrows and I was fascinated, I wanted to know more and I learned that using thread to shape one's eyebrows in an ancient African art form in addition China.India, and old Persia. This method is called threading and it's swiftly becoming a trend in western society. Clients & their skilled technicians swear this way of shaping ones eyebrow is a better, genteel way & causes less drama to the eyebrow and is a more accurate method of eyebrow sculpting which produces a phenomenal uniform brow shapes. Technicians who are skilled in this method claim it's easier than plucking and/or waxing. Always start with a full outgrown eyebrow. It takes generally two to three weeks to grow your eyebrows out.

Take a pencil  and mark your natural eyebrow line to change the shape.
Take your pencil and place it vertically from the outer rim of your nose and the outer most part of your iris. That is where the highest part of your arch will be. Mark it with your eyeliner pencil. If you don't like the position of it, you can adjust the pencil to suits you best. Rounder faces need higher brows, while longer faces need more straight brows.

Place your pencil over the outer corner of your nose and the outer tip of your eyebrows. This is where your eyebrow will stop. Mark it with an eyeliner pencil. You can adjust the length by moving the pencil closer in.

Take a colored eyeliner pencil and draw over the hairs you want to remove. Draw under the arch along the bottom of your eyebrow and the top of your eyebrow in the shape you want them.
Trim and Pluck  your eyebrows to change the shape of your eyebrows then carefully trim any stray
hairs by brushing your eyebrow hair up. If you have any long hairs sticking out of your eyeliner frame, then take the eyebrow trimmers and cut the hair. Plucking the hair on the outside of the eyeliner mark. Then pluck the hair on top. Only pluck the thin hairs outside of the shape of your eyebrow. Comb your eyebrows and pluck any other thin hair your have outside of your eyebrow shape. Compare your eyebrow to the shape you wanted to achieve. When it looks sufficiently matched with your other eyebrow, then you're finished. For thinning eyebrows fill them in with an eyebrow pencil.

In general most cosmetic procedure are characterized as elective procedures meaning (Unnecessary surgery) so many insurance companies won't pay for it, however when cosmetic surgery is done as a restorative procedure such as, when someone has sustained disfiguring injuries due to an accident or disease then obviously it is warranted and your insurance company may pay for your eyebrow procedure or at least a portion of your bill. You need to know for sure so contact your health insurance agent to determine their specific policy, however we all know enough to understand that the insurance racket is just that a money strangling conglomerate which will deny any claim given half an opportunity so be prudent make no final decisions until after you have met with your health insurance representative.
