Eyelash Basic by Tiease

Tiease's Eyelash Bible (THE FAUX LASH!)

Who wouldn't love to have the beautiful full lashes that we see our beloved movie stars, models rich & famous sporting!? Face any Fashionistat would, but it will cost you and Divas beware. Do  your research in order to receive the best possible results.

Once upon a time eyelash implants were illegal in the US but that's the past. Where there is money to be made there are those who will always find a way to make it possible-now you can actually have those long luscious limped eyes you've always wanted but weren't naturally bleassed with. In this article I will review non-surgical and surgical means of getting eyelash enough for you!

Eyelash transplantation can be used to replace eyelashes that have been damaged by trauma, or Under the procedure, a small incision is made at the back of the scalp to remove 30 or 40 hair follicles which are carefully sewn one by one onto the patient's eyelids. Only light sedation and local anesthetics are used and the cost is around $3,000 an eye. The use of the single-follicle hair transplantation technique enables new, living and growing eyelashes to be permanently restored to the eyelid using microsurgery.Using comfortable, computerized local anesthesia the procedure ordinarily done two hours in an out-patient setting. Hair follicles from the back of the scalp ) are harvested and then implanted into the eyelid. Absorbable stitches are used to seal the donor area, which remains undetectable both during and after the healing process. Usually 24 to 40 or more lashes can be placed per eyelid during a session. The implanted follicles grow and produce hair permanently. The newly growing lashes is suppose to have the same characteristics as scalp hair. The lashes will need to be routinely trimmed and curled. An‘eyelash perm’ is recommended for Divas  with straight hair.

Of course drugs for pain relief is provided as well as medication to reduce swelling. As with any out-patient procedure it's best to have a friend/companion accompany to and from from ambulatory care facility/or hospital where your procedure will be performed.  It's normal that  hours post procedure, some discomfort may be experienced in both your  donor area, and your eyelid. Your health-care provider is suppose to instructed you in  your post-op care and cleansing of your eyelids and new lashes. Some mild swelling and/or bruising is normal and may last up to two weeks. The absorbable stitches may take up to one month to dissolve completely. It is recommended that eye makeup (including mascara) be kept to an absolute minimum  post-op and during your healing process (1-2  weeks).

For an eyelash transplant, between 30 and 40 hairs are implanted in an hour to an hour and a half. Adverage recovery time is 4 days. Over the next few months, the transplanted hairs fall out (that's normal), then regrow from the follicle. After which, they'll require regular grooming &vtrimming as is your normal routine. Keep in mind that if over tweezing was the cause of your eyebrow baldness then don't repeat this bad habit!

Now that we have talked about eyelash transplant surgery lets look lets talk about simulated eyelashes: False eyelashes are responsible for giving millions a must-have look. There are different types of false eye lashes that can be used to enhance your style or even create a new spectacular Wow look!  Simulated lashes are amongst  the most popular products for creating lovely long eyelashes. There's no evidence that the formulas in drugstore mascaras are less effective than the expensive designer brands. Never-the-less people are hypnotized by brand names and trends.. Personally I wasn't born with a gold spoon in my mouth so cost and quality are important to me. These days a good long lasting mascara that you've tested and found to be satisfactory is right for you. I am not impressed by the designer cosmetics but rather how effective, hard wearing, attractive and affordable they are is my supreme focus. And if a drug-store brand beats how a designer brand more power to them!  If you want mascara to give your lashes the most volume, reviewers repeatedly say just one coat of DiorShow Backstage Makeup Mascara produces dramatic volume and provides nice length as well.  Amazon.com: Dior DiorShow Backstage Makeup Mascara is one of the highest-rated mascaras at Amazon.com where it receives high marks.Lancome Definicils Waterproof Mascara lives up to its washable counterpart, say reviews. Experts and users both report this long-wearing pick does a great job of lengthening and defining -- and leaves lashes soft.

Individual False Eyelashes – Perfect for everyday wear.
Natural False Eyelashes – Enhance any eye makeup look.
Eyelash Extensions – The newest and easiest way to have longer lashes.
Feather False Eyelashes – Go wild for fantasy makeup looks.
Remember that each has a different type of application method.

You desire  quality eye makeup that works and for a quick full look you can  grab your favorite simulated eyelashes. An excellent addition to any Fashionista's assemble providing an easy professional finishing touch. The surgery is not for everyone. The transplanted eyelashes grow just like head hair and need to be trimmed regularly and sometimes curled. Very curly head hair makes for eyelashes with excessive curl. Surgeons are using "plug and sew" techniques to give those who want and can affford it  long, sweeping lashes once achieved only by glued on extensions and thick mascara. These lashes reportedly continue to grow. Longer, thicker lashes are an ancient and natural gift of beauty. Eyelash transplantation does for the individual what their genes did not. It enhances  your existing lashes allowing you to grab attention on the spot.

For the less aggresssive approach for the Fashionista looking for a less aggressive, non-surgical approach Faux Lashes are a wish alternative.

The type of eyelashes you chose can tell alot about your personality, mood & make or break a fashionista's image, so it's worth taking a few minutes to familiarize yourself  with some basics. As a nurse I always like to start off with healthy tips then proceed to fashion facts. Lets get started. Now-a-days you can purchase just about any outrageous color eyelash that tickles your fancy. There are glitter lashes with the glitter pre-applied, ridiculous sparkles you name it if it can be created someone is willing to wear it.

A.  Start by first washing your hands then by placing the eyelash (without glue) at the outer corner of your eye setting lightly on top of your eyelashes. Judge how much needs to be trimmed off the fake lash by looking at how much of it extends beyond the inner corner of your own lashes.

B.   Remove the lash. To trim you want to trim from the outer edge of the lash, not the inner edge. This is why you will need to fit a second time to check for fit. So, set it back to see if you’ve trimmed enough. It’s better to trim in stages to prevent taking too much off.

Once you have got the width trimmed to the correct size on one eye, now repeat for the your second eye. Most Divas have a slight difference in the size of your eyes. It makes a difference in the comfort level, so it’s important to take this extra step.  Once you’ve trimmed the width, take a look at the length, remember to trim them in stages.

Different types of false lashes allow you to achieve any type of look you want. Your lashes can go from bold and dark, to earthy and light. They come in a variety of colors including all the shades found in natural lashes. Some are time-consuming to apply while others go on in minutes.

Strips of Lashes
The old standby strip faux lash is still around and going strong (Probably been used for centuries). Fortunately  they're more refined and detailed. The strip lash is glued along your lid at the eyelash line. You do this is with either an adhesive strip that is pre-attached to faux lash or with special false eyelash glue. Generally most strip eyelashes are not as natural in appearance and often look fake when up close.

            The Single Individual lash
These are applied ndividually by adding them between your own. These are dipped in glue and added throughout your own eyelashes. Using a clean tweezer dip each individual lash in the glue then delicately apply them between your own lashes this obviously takes time the benefit but the payoff is big when done right you will have achieved a more natural look. Of course the amount used will depend upon the thickness you desire. Usually when done correctly noone can tell that you're wear faux lashes (Unless you have some jealous person using a magnifying glass to detect the smallest flaw!) When this happens take heart because when this occurs you you have done your lashes justice & captured possitive attention, so pat yourself on the back. Of course this takes alot of time to apply so it is not for a quick do, but when you want more natural look it's worth it.

Clusters named because they are sold in small clusters with about ten hairs in each small bunch are also glued between your own lashes & ordinarily result in a more natural appearance when compard to most strip lashes.  These clusters are glued in-between your own eyelashes thus resulting in a very natural look when performed correctly and are difficult to detect up close, however this technique is more time-consuming than the old faithful strip type
The Feather Lash
Lately this eyelash feather look has become the latest trend, so I have included a video to introduce you to them & A basic demonstrate on creating and applying your feathered faux eyelashes. There are many different materials used:
Mink and sable hairs create a soft, feathery look, but for some real eye-popping, show-stopping drama, sport some fake lashes that are made of real feathers. Here's how.
Supplies you need:
Paper
Feathers
Scissors
Super-hold hairspray
Brow brush

*Cut a paper square, about 2x2 inches. Close one eye and place one corner of the square at the inner corner of your eye, laying the edge of the paper on the lash line. Trim the paper and hold against the lash line until the paper is the same width as the lash line. This paper pattern will help you make two matching feather eyelashes of the same length.

*Select two matching feathers. Using scissors, cut out the portions of the feathers that you want to use to make the eyelashes, the same length as your paper pattern. Use a portion of the feather that has a thin central shaft. Notice that one end has longer barbs (individual feather fibers) than the other.

*Pull the barbs off one side of a feather with your fingers. When you pull the barbs off the second feather, the feathers should look like mirror-images of each other, creating a left and right eyelash. Holding the eyelash, press the end of the shaft between the tip of your thumbnail and your forefinger. Pull the eyelash as you apply pressure, to soften and curve the shaft. You may have to repeat several times to make the eyelash flexible enough to form to your lash line and stay in place when you put it on.

*Using feathers to make false lashes is a trendy way to create an exotic look. Cut a paper square, about 2x2 inches. Close one eye and place one corner of the square at the inner corner of your eye, laying the edge of the paper on the lash line. Trim the paper and hold against the lash line until the paper is the same width as the lash line. This paper pattern will help you make two matching feather eyelashes of the same length.

Use a portion of the feather that has a thin central shaft. Notice that one end has longer barbs (individual feather fibers) than the other.

You may have to repeat several times to make the eyelash flexible enough to form to your lash line and stay in place when you put it on.

*Spray the lash with Super-hold hairspray, then brush the eyelash to achieve the desired form. Repeat the steps to make two matching feather eyelashes. You should curl your feather eyelashes with a skinny barreled curling iron.

The first thing you need to do is determine which color you should use.  Brunettes with dark hair and those with black hair can use black eyelashes.  Dark brown eyelashes are compatible with red hair, blonde and light brown.  Faux eyelashes are offered in natural colors for a realistic look. They also come in outrageous in-your-face hues such as:  Red, Purple,  Yellow, green, blue, pink, orange and the list goes on.  There are silver, gold and crystal clear lashes available in many stores and online. Multicolor lashes are available if you really want your eyes to stand out. Colored lashes can be worn for a night out to create that fierce divas accent and help your outfit really pop!

Select the right length and fullness. I sugges you choose a pair of simulated lashes which appear a little short because they usually appear longer once you apply them.Several lengths are offered in faux lashes. Long, medium and short are the more common lengths available in all three of the types. Strip eyelashes are offered in lengths that make up different looks such as "The Movie-Star look where the uneven length lashes impart a star effect. There is a variety of designer eyelash lengths available in the strip type. All lashes can be cut to a length that suits your personal taste. If you are unsure of the length that you would like, it would be better to go longer.

Keep in mind that 90% of simulated lashes must be trimmed prior to applying them..
You want to create a natural look and feathered or individual lashes work well for this. Makeup artist to the stars and models generally use large over-the-top simulated lashes so that they appear properly on screen. A little thicker and longer than you would normally wear for daytime use.  Customizing your simulated eyelashes take practice so don't be discouraged. Simulated  lashes look better when they’re customized to your eye's natural contour, so use a cosmetic tweezers to trim them.

     QUICK TIP

I don't know how well this will work because it depends on the individual's skill in performing this quick eyelash enhancement. Put a few lashes at a time on the tip of your mascara brush & push them into the mascara tube. The lashes supposedly attach to your lashes to create a quick fuller appearance. Yielding speedy & natural appearasnce you can add single eyelashes into your mascara. Put a few lashes at a time on the tip of your mascara applicator and then push them into the tube. When you put your mascara on, these tiny follicles attach to your lash line giving you thicker and longer lashes without too much fuss. The mascara acts like a glue keeping them in place.

When it comes to Eye-cosmetics & make-up. Follow directions on the label carefully, including all “Cautions” and “Warnings.”
Keep makeup closed tight when not in use.
Wash your hands before you put on any makeup.

The human eye is a naturally sterile environment (It is sterile and germ free naturally) so keep this in mind prior to starting any technique involving your precious eye sight remember to wash your hands thoroughly. Self-health advocation goes a mighty long way toward making a fashionista's look pop!

Work in a well lite area and use a magnifying mirror. You can learn the skills required . Take a few minutes to breath for the newbie (It's not as difficult as it initially seems & practice makes perfect)

Never put on makeup while you are driving.

Never share makeup with anyone else.

Don't add liquid to makeup.

Immediately cease using a product when  a rash occurs or any abnormal problems arise seek medical advice and discard any eye cosmetic you were using when you got the infection.

Throw away makeup if the color changes.

Throw away makeup if it gets an odor.

Be extra careful not to keep mascara too long. Some companies say three months is long enough.

Never use eye makeup if you have an eye infection.

Keep makeup out of the sun.

Some cosmetics are flameable, such as spray cans so keep

You also can report a problem to FDA. You can find your nearest FDA district office at or in the blue pages of your phone book.

You also can call FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) Adverse Events Reporting System (CAERS) at (301) 436-2405 or send an email to CAERS@cfsan.fda.gov.

There are a variety of foe eyelashes to choose from and the list is growing everyday (Noone is paying me to push their product so I won't focus on any particular product).  As with any thing their are affordable then outrageously expensivel products. My advice pick the one which works best for you and decide what sort of atmosphere you want to create. The eye is a window into the soul and speaks without words so one bat of as luscious eyelash radiates a world of coded messages!

* With a clean  personal  tweezer, dip the base end of the lashes into the glue, then place the lashes as close to the baseline of your own as is safest. Wherever you want the wow impact (ordinarily, your mid to outer lashes is a good choice).

* Apply gently pressure (Always remember and never forget You are dealing with your eyes here so you don't want to do anything roughly!)  but firmly with  clean washed fingers. Hold the lash in place for approximately 5-10 seconds time enough for your glue  to stick.

Allow glue time to dry, and then apply a dark eyeliner to hide the line of the faux eyelashes, apply your mascara the mascara helps blend your own lashes with the faux lashes giving you a more realistic appearance.

* To remove, gently pull them off with  your fingers or tweezers  which ever feels more comfortable for you.

                 Eyelash Tidbits

Many Fashionistas are mystified by eye makeup. But once you practice & calm down you can do it. Here are some basic techniques for applying cosmetics. I have also included a video for you to watch which I think may be helpful.

First always remember and never forget to practice hygiene: Wash your hands prior to beginning. Always start with your own new and/or clean cosmetics.

Apply a thin layer of foundation or primer on the eyelids to correct imperfections and create the perfect canvas for the application of color. In fact, eye makeup can stop here and you'll still look pulled together.

Set lids with powder if you'll be using powder eye shadow (skip the powder if you'll be using creme or pencils, which will glide more easily over foundation alone).

Choose Color

To identify colors that work for you, use your hair as a guide (not your eyes). Blondes look good in creams and taupes, while mochas and chocolate browns flatter brunettes. If you are auburn or redhead, go with coppers, peaches, and reddish browns or cool tones like pink and lavenders. Gray hair is gorgeous with grays, soft purples, and blues.

Choose Technique

1. One shadow all over: For complete simplicity, dust the entire eyelid with a wash of one color. Cream eye shadows are great for this look -- light to medium tones work best. Add mascara and brown pencil as needed.

2. Emphasizing the crease line for depth: Begin with the lightest color first. Dust a light tone over the entire eyelid with a medium eye shadow brush using the following technique: Hold your brush very lightly and go from the lashline to slightly beyond the crease (where the eyelid meets the browbone). Glide up to the browbone and the brush will naturally lift off your face -- just where you want to color to end.

Then dust a medium shade in the creaseline (something with a bit more depth than what went on the eyelid), using a small to medium shadow brush. Extend slightly beyond the crease, up toward the browbone. This adds depth to the eyes. And by going slightly beyond the crease, you can create a contour that's visible even when your eyes are wide open.

You can stop here. But if you want more drama, place a medium to deep tone on the upper lashline, using an angled eye shadow or eyeliner brush. And keep this line soft and smudged. Still more drama? Brush more of this color under the lower lashline -- apply with the smudge brush in mini downward strokes.

Emphasizing your lashline for shape: For definition of eye shape, dust a light to medium tone over the entire eyelid (see first step in Basic #1). At your lashbase apply a darker tone with an eyeliner brush to create that smudged look you see the models sporting.

When finished you shouldn't be able to see where colors begin or end. Use a large eye shadow brush and dust the entire eye area with loose powder to set and blend. Add mascara and brow pencil as desired. To obtain the best results first know thyself. What sort of eyes do you have and what will work best for you.

Eye Contours vary as do faces so it's best to familiarize yourself to some basic facts:

Let's face it big youthful eyes (Not bugged eyes are naturally appealing) are a hit and you need only enhance this quality so experiment. Usually black/off-black and deep, warm mascara hues work well.

Small eyes are a bit more challenging but can be made to attract attention by using  shimmering hues which dazzle and add sparkle to bring energy to your eyes. Avoid black because you want to pop and color does this!

The Asian /narrow eye which you may want to make look wider or fuller.
Keep your application on the outer edges of  the eyes, extending  beyond the outer corners makes the eye look fuller.

For the naturallly protruding eye
Your eye are naturally attention grabbing so try to select hues with warmth and depth  to create the illusion of receding. Dust a medium tone over your entire eyelid. Experiment a bit-You may like to add adeeper hue  the crease of your eyes at yourlashlines.

Deep Set Sockets
Dust your eyelid with a ligher  tone to bring your eyes forward a bit. Intensify color along the upper lashline with a medium earth tones.

Wide Set
Come at this from the inner corners of your eyes. Avoid going beyond your outer corners.

Creating Your Sexy Cat Eyes Look!

If you really want those limped bedroom smokey-cat-girl eyes. My tips will help take you there! Black is key but for a more sutle look burgundy or grey works. Take your natural complexsion into account and your  hair color.

Here is what you need to get started:

* Eye shadow brush with thin bristles are best to maintain control.

* Black eyeliner - The pencil and ensure that it is sharp.

* Black eyeliner - The brush, thinner the liquid eyeliner, is the better.

* Dark eye shadow. Irridescent rather than flat matt (too hard), or shiny (too messy).

* Highlight shimmer for under the eyebrow. Avoid garish looking 'high glitter'.

* Black mascara. Obviously choose a quality brand to avoid clumping and 'spider eyes'.

* A good eyebrow pencil. Try to select the most natural shade for you as possible.

* Eyelash curlers.

Apply foundation, under eye concealer and powder. Using your black eyeliner pencil, start from the front corner of your eyelid. Draw a soft smudge line to the end of your lash line. Use your eyeshadow brush to apply the dark eye shadow over the top of the smudged line for a soft smoky look. Ensure that the edges are neatly blended. Then take the brush eyeliner and apply as close to your lashes as you can on the top lid only. Make the line as thick and pronounced as you wish, but make sure that the line is thickest at the outer corner, and thinner as you go inward. Apply another smoky coat of eye shadow with the brush to blend the harsh edges. Subtly blend your darker eye shadow up from your lashes to your eye crease. Aapply a dazzling highlight in gold, eye plant or cream under  to the outer corners of your eyebrow.
With eyebrow pencil  creeate a realistic looking curving eyebrow this makes your eye really pop. As always don't forget to curl your eyelashes, followed by applying a thin  coats of  mascara. You want to build your eyelayers up gradually in order to prevent that canked appearance (yawk!). And there you have it your cat eye look make simple.

Fake eyelashes have been a popular cosmetic accessory for many years. Ladies who were not born with thick, long eyelashes can fake it with many of the falsies available on the market. False lashes have a beautiful impact on the eyes, and they can be used alone or with makeup for the ultimate glamorous effect. There are many types to use in a huge variety of styles, from simple, natural individual lashes to fluffy bold feathers that arch up to one’s eyebrows. No matter what look a woman desires, there is a set of fake lashes out there to suit youNot every Fashionista is willing or able to apply faux lashes. There is an option to have eyelash extensions applied at a salon. Unlike the ones bought at the store, these extensions are semi-permanent and will fall out over time. They are usually not real hair, either. Extensions are more appropriate for women who want a natural daily look but do not want to apply faux eyelashes daily. They're more expensive than strip lash sets, however, and require more maintenance.

Varieties in Fake Lashes

In most cases, false eyelashes are made from human hair, and they must be applied to the lash line with surgical grade glue. One can buy sets that include the glue and tweezers or special applicator tool. The eyelashes usually come in a full fan that will span the length of the eyelid, but there are half length and individual lashes too. A set of half-length or semi lashes are smaller, and they are usually placed on the outer corner to emphasize the shape of the eyes.

some couture fashion shows have featured runway models wearing false eyelashes made from bold feathers that are either mixed with human hair lash extensions or applied directly to the model’s own

There are several popular brands available in the cosmetic aisles, so choosing the best false eyelashes is up to the individual’s tastes. The most common and cheapest brands are Ardell and Andrea, which are easy to find in drug stores and cosmetic aisles. These are fine for most uses, but they are not known to be the most natural appearing brands. They are great to have on hand if one needs to pick up some falsies at the last minute for an unexpected glamorous event. They are perfect for costume parties or Halloween, too.
For Divas with expensive taste and deep financial pockets the fake lashes, "Shu Uemera" is known to have reliable eyelash glue, which is one of the most important aspects of application and various kinds of simulated eye styles.
Now a days glam is the way to go & showgirl-movie star eyelash rhinestones and feathers are the rave but I must also state not for every Fashionista
The cosmetic counters, drug chains and discount stores have a gigantic selection of simulated lashes that Diva can hearterlyindulge herself in.

Keep in mind that not matter the cost or name of your simulated eyelashes you will still need to properly trim, cut and fit lashes them to your specific eye size.

There is an enormous selection of fake eyelashes available: synthetic or natural eyelashes, false sets or extensions, bold or demure, Gothic or glamorous; the list is extensive. There is certainly a product that will suit your style. False lashes are not difficult to apply, and they can be easily removed, as well. If one is looking for a style change, trying out a pair of false eyelashes may be just the thing for a fresh new look.

      Eyelash Growth Products

Revitalash Eyelash Conditioner belongs to Athena Cosmetics. They claim their goal is to support  women coping with  breast cancer. Chemotherapy is no joke and it's side effects alters a woman's appearance,  affects her emotionally and mentally, so a good product which can help clients regrow precious eyelashes as a result of chemotherapy, radiotherapy or stress is wotth a shout-out!

Latisse claims to be the first FDA approved eyelash enhancement product. Produced by Allergen (the same company who manufactures Botox), the prescription is used to treat hypotrichosis, a technical term for having too few eyelashes.
Hypotrichosis refers to an abnormal hair growth patterns ( loss or reduction). It occurs, most often by the growth of vellus hair in areas of the body that normally produce terminal hair. Typically, the individual's hair growth is normal after birth, but shortly thereafter the hair is shed and replaced with sparse, abnormal hair growth. The new hair is typically fine, short and brittle, and may lack pigmentation. Baldness may be present by late teens of early adulthood. The best advice is to seek dermatologist/medical helop and  investing  hair alternatives & hair replacement procedure may help.
